Louise Vernon – Fundraising Volunteer

7 years ago at the age of 35 a scared women walked into the cancer centre looking for help after a breast cancer diagnosis, fearful of what the future held for her.  After 9 months of treatment, with many up and downs along the way, I finished treatment, but not my association with the centre.  I’d been supported along the way and wanted to get out there and make a difference to show people there can be life after cancer and hopefully be a positive role model for people.

My primary role as part of the Tamworth Wellbeing and Cancer Support Centre is to raise awareness, and hopefully some sponsorship along the way, by taking part in crazy events, usually now involving running silly distances like half and a full marathons.  You will find me pounding the streets of Tamworth and at a race near you often wearing my latest charity vest.  Cancer has given me a new direction and purpose in life, the centre has given me a focus to target my fundraising efforts, a place where I feel totally at home and I’m proud to support.
